Check out these pictures.
Enjoy.

MLC This Weekend (or Force Skirts)

Yo! Check dis!

1. We are leaving at 4 from the SRC. One car will leave whenever Jonathan gets there, so if you need more time let me know, and I'll save you a spot in that car.

2. Bring a sleeping bag if you have one, I have a couple if anyone needs to borrow one, but check with your roomates/on your floor first.

3. Pack your cleats near the top of your stuff because with a 6 hour ride ahead of us, everyone will be cleat checked before they can get in a car. Make sure to check Pride and I too.

4. Cut your toenails and fingernails ASAP, so they can grow back a little before we play.

5. Go to bed by midnight the next 2 nights, you need to be on a normal cycle. ALso, try to eat good things. Pride used the phrase "carb loading" so if you know what that is, do it.

6. Call your parents tomorrow because we are going to be playing so hard this weekend that some of you might not make it back. I know my parents hold a candellight vigil every Sunday I'm at a tournament until I come back.

7. If you see your teammates around, fire each other up. (WARNING!: Now that I have given this instruction, avoid Alford as much as possible for the next day or so. He'll fire you up, but you might not like it.)

8. Bring a light and a dark just in case. We will be sharing jerseys.

If you can think of anything to add, reply to this post.
Peace,
Weasel

A little pre-game

Hey all, right now I'm in St. Louis trying to sleep, but unable, mostly due to the 2 monsters I drank on the drive down...whoops.

While driving I had an excellent conversation with myself about pep talks and the like. (Ricky's minivan has no stereo, which is kind of a downer on a 4 hour drive, and with no one else around, I decided I would make for an excellent person to bounce some ideas off of)

The main thing I came up with is an idea I took from the Man, Michael Jordan...and that is to have small goals to work towards with this upcoming tournament. Now, of course the overriding goal is to have fun, and enjoy the company of your teammates and friends (not too much enjoyment with Alford if you catch my drift), but for those who are thinking of playing this spring, or even for those who just want to improve their game (or if you are R. Kelly, you call it "tightening your game") here's an element or elements to focus on this weekend. If you want more advice, pointers, etc. just let me know, I am very much in the interest of turning anyone and everyone into an all-star-caliber ultimate player. I'll start with my roommates because I can be a bit more...open so to speak.

Weasel: We'll start with the captain. This is the beginning of YOUR show, Machine's season is over, now you must establish a dominant role on the team...show them why you're the boss. Those who know you have seen what you are capable of, now you have to show the young guys how the game is played.

Pride (or P-Funk as I am trying to install this as his nickname): Consistency is your greatest strength. In the past, when all else was going badly (which was often) you were always the rock...solid play, no unforced errors coupled with your strong defense will boost this squad. Show them that you are someone that can always be counted on to move the disc, and make the play. You've never been a flashy player, you've never had to be, you've already got a girl, and you embody what it means to be a pivot...you play well, the team will play well with you.

Ricky: Wake up on time. A couple of us have seen what you can do. Get enough sleep and you'll tear people apart.

Yosh (Possibly coming): Your last endeavor into sacking up didn't go so well...this time, if you're going to make a play...do it in a game.

Kebo (hey, that's me!): Bring out the Kebo, don't spike the disc, and keep the disc moving. Controlling that temper has been less of a problem lately, just remember that Kebo plays better when he's having fun. Also, focus heavily on getting the young guns involved, everyone knows that Goose and Weasel can play...less energy elevating your own game, and more time focusing on elevating your teammates.

Alford: There will be players who will take it easy on you because they haven't seen you move...punish their insolence with hard cuts and high percentage passes. You don't need to force anything fancy, or make the big one, you can make a huge impact by being a consistent dump reset and making good clean throws upfield. Just don't get all tired with the ladies.

Jansen: Phsyically you know you're solid...just KEEP RUNNING! Be "that guy" that whenever the other team lines up against us, they say "I don't want him, I can't keep up with him" You know you can beat guys both ways, now do it...again, and again...and again...and again. Also, call the gal pal while we're at the tourney, let her know you're thinking about her...chicks dig that kind of stuff.

Phil: Locate your testicles. (hint: you won't find them at a swing dance)

Seth: Or do I dare say, Pride's protege? Flashiness, attention, glory? The Seth does not crave these things. While some may people like spiffy power tools that excel at a single function and make a lot of noise and sparks, you stray from it...you are the hammer. A portable jigsaw is flashy and neato...when you're jigsawing something. Other than that it's an expensive paperweight. There are always uses for a hammer, and best of all...it's simple, it gets the job done. Be the hammer, be consistent, be solid.

Delew: Ohhhhh Delew...my the times we have spent together. Ups, downs, always a good time. There have been a number of occasions I can think of, where momentum of a game has been swung by you. Good or bad. A good delew is a highlight reel of sick grabs, and nice D's. A bad delew makes me want to punch old women in the ovaries. Bring the good one...to help, every point you play, designate someone on the sidelines to talk to you, ins, outs, up calls, and defensive help...you are always physically strong and you know it, just do what it takes to keep your head in the game and you'll be straight money.

Craig: You have a cannon, unleash it. The question is taming it...you know you can rifle the disc downfield, but if it's not TO a reciever it's just a really sweet shot. Keep your eyes on where you want the disc to land and you'll be fine. Be sure to warm up the huck so you get a feel for how it's gonna fly. It can open up a defense if you're on.

Jeremy: I hear you're coming, but no practices? Get going earlier, warm up well, and take it all in again. You are a defensive force, but you might need a little reacquaintence period...just don't mess up that hair.

Ben: Watch, learn. You have a tremendous asset in front of you...you'll have the opportunity to see some good handlers, watch how they get open, see their footwork, and get a sense for the flow of the game. This is more of a long term goal, but you'll thank yourself later for paying attention now.

Colsen: (Colson? Kolsen? Whatever) Try not to kill anyone. I know it may seem hilarious that most everyone is skinny, but that's no excuse to beat them up. Assert yourself on D early, make a couple sweet layout bids and get a taste for it...and it'll propel you (what an awesome pun) into being a stud defender.

Geese and Colt: I'm putting you two together because you possess the same worrisome trait. You remind me of me. Seriously, timewarp 3 years ago and there I was, physically dominant, very little experience, and talking big. Everyone had to endure 2 years of utter crap from me because I could sky people and beat them deep, until I had a very humbling experience which we can get into later. You two have proven in IMs and pickup that you can rock some worlds, now show it to the big boys. Either you'll assert yourselves and back up the talk, or you'll see how players play. I hope that regardless you learn a lot, and always keep an open ear for advice. With some tweaks and tuning you can become some real superstars, but you're not quite there yet. You are powerful young padawans, but you are not jedis yet.

Johnathon H: You obviously like to play, so enjoy yourself. Be a solid disc-mover. When you get it, look for the short give-and-go's. You've seen P-funk and I opening up huge holes in Defenses with simple short passes. In the off-season you can nail down a 60 yard huck, but for now enjoy tormenting defenses with a flurry of 100% completed passes, and they won't be able to set a mark or get their act together. You'll definitely be open on in-cuts, utilize them, and show them what being Kebo's facebook friend is all about! Oh and do something ridiculous so we can give you a nickname.

Joe (Talls): Be big, opponents are intimidated from the start by your height, take advantage. Book it deep and you'll get a swarm of guys rushing to stop you, this'll open up your teammates underneath, also...turn around and come back under hard and you'll have guys at your heels. Don't be scared to get into the crowds on jump balls and you'll come down with the disc...God made you tall, I say take advantage.

Jon (I think this is the last guy coming, let me know if I missed someone, or if Jon isn't coming): I think that's how you spell your name, if not, no worries, you'll have a nickname soon enough anyway. Here it is: Jon, you are Asian. (At least I think so, otherwise disregard this terribly offensive note) In the ultimate world Asian guys are quick handlers that are frustrating to guard...I say why stop a good thing? Remember that at any given time, your defender is giving you something...take it like it's your job. Be sure to use your Asian ancestors martial arts to watch your defenders balance...when he's running at you leaning forward, run past him the other way, be quick, be decisive...be asian. Watch Weasel, even though he's a round eyes, he can teach you a lot.

I guess that is all for now, I apologize for anyone I missed or offended...anyone that wants an in-depth analysis on their game, let me know...as I've said, it is my goal to cultivate solid ultimate players, and lets have fun kicking anuses this weekend.

Kebo

P.S. Goose, I almost forgot you...try to be less ridiculous than usual. I know it's hard being slower, less attractive and unable to get as high up as I can...but at least you could act human once in a while. Oh yeah, and GOOBO REIGNS SUPREME!

Missouri Loves Company

Hey Everyone!

We are in a power pool for Missouri Loves Company!

That means they expect us to be one of the best 10 teams at the tournament, which (depending on how many people come), we will be.

So, remember that we are going to Missouri Friday night, November 10th to play the most competitive ultimate many of us have ever played.

Here's the schedule, so you can brag about who we are playing:

Natties!!!

Most of you know already, but just in case (and also for ego stroking purposes) Weasel and I will be competing with Machine at Nationals in Sarasota on the last weekend of October.

Regionals was this past weekend, and Machine took 3rd. We were expecting first, but a semis loss to BAT (a big part my fault, I was heavily off my game) and an early loss to Madcow sunday when they were playing the best game of their lives put us in a do-or-die situation and having to win 3 straight. General Strike, Madcow again, and Madison.

Weasel and I didn't play much in the general strike game, it was a heavy upwind-downwind game, and we poured it on from the first point, they never really had a shot. Madcow was closer, wind died a bit, and with everyone else showing a little fatigue, Weasel and I stepped in a little more here, played pretty solidly. Final was 15-10 if I recall.

Then there was Madison. Boy howdy, that was fun. The first point set the tone, physical dominance. Weasel and I played very well here, even getting to share the field a couple times. Layouts, skies...the works. In fact, in one point, I had a sky D (foul was overturned by the observer) Weasel and I torched everyone on the field before a teammate turned it over, only to have Weasel get a disgusting layout D on an incut, and yours truly skied 3 people on a huck. By the way, Weasel, I believe someone has a picture of both your D, and my sky...I'll let you know when I get my hands on em.

The end result is Natties. Weasel and I will be in peak condition, and we'll make Wheaton proud with our performance. Please keep us in your thoughts, fire us emails and whatnot to keep us pumped, and we'll sign DVDs for you when Weasel and I are on the covers. (I'm assuming here that the producers will have such a hard time deciding which of us to put on the cover, that they release two limited edition covers.

Oh, and when you go to the last fall tourney, be ready for a fireworks show from your future National Champions.

This weekend

Hey guys, sorry I couldn't be there with y'all for today's games, congrats on the win over Michigan State!

I wasn't there today, so I can't comment on the guys who were only there today, but I can make observations about yesterday:
-We played really well.
Considering that for many of you, this is your first college tourney (and first competitive experience) you handled it well. Mistakes will happen, as Weasel can attest, even at Machine's practices today there were drops and throw-aways...it happens. The part that fills my chest with pride is the manner the mistakes were handled, basically whoever screwed up kept their head up and worked to "get their hat back" so to speak. There was no quitting...down significantly to White water, we were still playing well, and not just handing it to them...we still forced them to work for every score, and work to keep us from scoring, that is impressive.
-You handled yourselves well.
Whether it was the constant talk on sidelines of drinking, and the party, the UWW girls trying to "stretch" wheaton boys and make out with them, or just the nature of competitive players swearing and being jerks...wheaton maintained it's classiness and composure. Granted I was not helping the case any, but y'all more than made up for me.
-You brought intensity.
Whether it was the copious amounts of layouts throughout the day, or the hard running, even at the end of game 4, you came to play, and you did. Tournaments are a brutal endeavor, and the only real way to prepare for them is to...play tournaments...unless you guys want to do 8 hour practices on both days of a weekend. Basically, it is one of the most physically demanding sports competition and you learned why. Just wait until the end of spring season, what amazing shape you'll be in, and how much fun you'll have torching people towards the end of the day when all of your opponents have the additional burden of years of heavy drinking also trashing their system.
-You enjoyed yourselves.
Or so I hope, it seemed to me like y'all had fun. I can only imagine what you were like when you played michigan state today...love the game guys, love the game.

Practices and Tournament

So, I guess, although I am just hearing about these things myself, we might as well update this guy. Practice Tuesday (9/26) and Thursday (9/27) morning from 7 til people go to class at Lawson. Tournament this weekend in Wisconsin (less than two hours away, I hear).
